PLAN YOUR WEDDING AND LOSE THE STRESS

10 STEPS TO HELP YOU STAY CALM AND KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE

Wedding season is in high gear now that most restrictions have been lifted here in Israel.  Whether you’re planning your wedding or are close to the big day, stress can make a mess of it all. Israel Events Magazine scoured the internet for expert advice on how to lower the stress and anxiety that seems to inevitably come with wedding planning.

We’ve put together a Top 10 list of suggestions to help you get to your big day in the most stress-free way possible. Of course, just like your wedding, you’ll have to find that unique combination of what works for you. There is a way to take some of these seemingly universal truths and turn them into practical decisions to make this whole crazy journey a little less stressful – and a lot more fun.

1. Prioritize

Lists, lists and more lists! The best way to keep track of everything that needs to be done is to list everything you have to do to plan the big day. What are the most important tasks? Which things need to get done right now and what can wait? Make lists as things come to mind. Nothing is more gratifying than crossing tasks off your list as they get done!

Tip: Tackle the easiest tasks first and set deadlines for the bigger ones.

2. Strategize

It will seem like you have a thousand and one decisions to make. Don’t let that overwhelm you! Make a plan with your partner well in advance of your wedding date and decide which things you’ll work on together, and which things are “Bride Only” or “Groom Only” that you’ll each be responsible for.

Tip: Listen graciously and say ‘thank you’ when others offer advice. Own the plan. It’s your day!

3. Minimize

Don’t make things more complicated than they need to be. Once you set a basic list of priorities, stick to it and delete things that are just not so important. What works for someone else may not be the right thing for you.

Tip: Sometimes less is more. Don’t get distracted by passing fads and always stick to your priorities.

4. Mobilize

All those friends and well-meaning family members who offered to help? Put them to work!

Of course, allow only those who genuinely look out for you and your sanity to be involved. Let them help with things like researching venues, caterers, photographers, DJ’s and more. Super organized friends can help with task management and budgeting; tech-savvy pals can help you set up a wedding website or online registry.

Tip: Keep track of everything in one place, like a shared folder online or a handwritten journal, so things don’t get lost in the shuffle.

5. Specialize

The best way to delegate and minimize those thousand and one decisions is to hire a professional wedding planner. From venues to decor, caterers to hair stylists and makeup artists, invitations to day-of-event management, a good wedding planner will keep track of everything and know exactly how to handle any last minute emergencies.

Tip: A wedding planner will be your greatest ally and will actually save you time, money and stress!

6. Crystalize

Do you have an image of what your dream wedding will look like? Whether you want the perfect outdoor wedding set in nature or at the most historic religious site, be realistic and clear about what you want, especially with your partner, and scout out wedding locations within your budget.

Tip: Avoid stress and disappointment. Consider more than one option should your first choice not be available.

7.  Energize

Wedding planning is fraught with emotion. Depending on the length of your engagement, it can sap your strength and energy. Be sure to pace yourself and take time to relax. Take a break if you feel overwhelmed. Clear your head. Go for a run or take a walk. Remember to stay hydrated and fed.  Drink plenty of water and eat protein for energy.

Tip: Schedule a date with your partner or have a fun night out with close friends. This is the time to take care of yourself and recharge.

8. Vocalize

Clarify any and all details about what you do and don’t want as the big day gets closer. As Taylor Swift would say, “Speak now!”  Review details with your partner, family members, wedding planner, bridesmaids, hair stylist, caterer, photographer, band/DJ, etc., and make sure everyone is on the same page.

Tip: Express yourself and what you want. Iron out all the details to avoid surprises.

9.  Finalize

Designate a sibling or close friend as the go-to person for all wedding day issues. Make a list of  things to bring to the wedding venue, such as religious items for the ceremony, and flat shoes for dancing, and make sure your go-to person knows what’s on the list as well.

Tip: Give yourself peace of mind by knowing someone else will handle day-of details.

10. Eye on the Prize

Getting married is a rite of passage. Remember to be mindful of the experience and stay focused. Let the high you’re feeling carry you through and take you to that happy place whenever you need to.

Tip: Keep your eye on the prize. You’re almost there…
